HAVELLS PROVIDES ELECTRICAL CARE FOR HAZELDENE RESIDENTS

London, 16 July 2013: Innovative switchgear manufacturer, Havells has recently provided a complete electrical distribution system for Hazeldene House, a care home which is part of the Graham Care Group. Constructed over three floors, the building provides separate accommodation in studio and one bedroom suites for residents with significant nursing care needs.

Full 24 hour nursing care is required for most residents, so an extremely reliable LV distribution system was required which also offers high flexibility in regards to energy management. Harkel Building Services was tasked with the design, supply and installation of the care home’s electrical system, which included - LV distribution equipment, lighting (internal, external and emergency), small power, telephony/data, fire alarm, CCTV and a combined nurse call alarm.
 
Havells product specification was an ideal match for Harkels requirements with the main electrical distribution equipment consisting of a Havells 400A MCCB Panelboard and four 125A Type B distribution boards including the flagship Havells Tri-Load. This resulted in a distribution system that was not only simple to install, but could also offer metering to meet Part L2 of the building regulations.
 
“This project is just step one in a long term aim to understand precisely how much energy each care home in The Graham Care Group uses,” says Lee Yellott, Senior Project Engineer for Harkel Building Services. “Hazeldene House has been built to the highest specification possible in terms of energy sustainability, the idea behind installing the Tri-Load board was to completely future-proof the building in regards to energy management.
 
“We chose to install the Tri-Load due to its unique three load approach, which meant energy consumption and data could be easily split into three categories: power, lighting and other services. This means a reduced amount of physical meters, not to mention a far clearer view of the make-up of how each building uses its energy.
 
“From an installation point of view it was incredibly easy, all the metering was pre-installed and ready to go, so it was just treated like a standard TPN board installation.”
